What is prestained protein ladder? ›

Prestained protein ladders have three highly-intensified colored reference bands of 25 kDa, 50 kDa, and 75 kDa (kilodaltons). These bands make it easier to monitor the protein migration patterns and calculate the molecular weights of proteins.

The Color Prestained Protein Standard, Broad Range is a mixture of highly pure, recombinant, prestained proteins, covalently coupled with a blue chromophore, and two reference bands (one orange and one green at 72 kDa and 26 kDa, respectively), that resolves into 11 sharp bands when electrophoresed.

We recommend storing the Spectra™ Protein Ladders at –20 degrees C where they are stable for a year. The Spectra™ Multicolor Broad Range Protein Ladder and Spectra™ Multicolor High Range Protein Ladder are stable for up to 3 months at 4 degrees C.

Cut a polyethylene bag (originally open at one end) along one of its sides. Lift the top flap of the bag and place the SDS–PAGE gel on the lower flap. Lower the top flap slowly on top of the gel, such that no air bubbles are trapped (see Note 6). Store the polyethylene bag at room temperature without heat sealing.
