The NASCAR regular season is slowly but surely coming to a close, and the playoff picture is already beginning to take shape. Alex Bowman took care of business at the Chicago street race a week ago, securing his first win of the season and making him eligible for a playoff spot.
Outside of Bowman's victory, the bigger overarching story was Bubba Wallace's post-finish collision with Bowman that earned the 23XI driver a $50,000 fine.
Bowman, who had collided with Wallace about halfway through the race, disagreed with the fine, saying post-race that the contact was minimal and undeserved. He expressed regret over that collision following the race.
“I have to apologize again to the 23 guys,” Bowman told Autoweek and other reporters Sunday. “I messed up and was trying to get my windshield wiper on, but I missed a corner and ruined their whole day."
Now, the drivers must move past the incident and transition their focus to Pocono, as only six races remain before the postseason begins.
